One Story

On the night before the mission we stayed in Shaa’r-Yashuv in the north. After all of us officers set out the plane and to finish the last details of the mission, I drove with Eitan to “Gibor” military camp. We drove in the silver “Sufa” (jeep), which became part of Eitan’s character.

In those journeys before missions Eitan let himself relax a bit of the stress. We planned the hot drinks and the food preparation for our force and then Eitan asked: “So, what do you think, is this mission going to be accomplished?” I answered that it would but that it was advisable to kill saboteurs and come back quickly since it was cold and from the observations it looked like there was snow at our final destination. Eitan smiled and said: “Returning, but by helicopters”.

The next day the rumor about helicopters spread, with no connection to reality. Eitan also surprised the force in the last checking before the mission, and checked our flight notes.

We came back by helicopters, but for sure not the way Eitan planned. From then on we had a new struggle to deal with.
